ESG Theatre director job posting

The role of Theatre Director is a part-time contract position for Eastside Story Guild, a sacred storytelling community of children and teens in East Vancouver, that will focus on the direction of the October 2026 Mosaic scene and the May 2027 play. 

Hours will include time on Fridays with the Guild and prep time outside of this, with 3-4 weekend rehearsals over the ten months. 

Ideally the theatre director will be present 3:30-6pm on most Guild Fridays (plus whatever other time is needed to prepare for the rehearsal on site) September 11th 2026 through May 7th 2027, with the actual rehearsal usually beginning at 4:30 or 5pm depending on the week.

ESG welcomes children & teens in grades 2-12 from any culture, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, or faith and is a ministry of Grandview Church. 

the theatre director:

  • will submit a clear criminal record check and complete the required Leading with Care training for working with children, youth, and vulnerable adults 

  • will value and engage with ESG participants, staff, volunteers,  parents and yourself as people of deep worth, held in Christ’s love, and will support the Vision of Grandview Church, a community of people who receive and extend the generous welcome of God.

  • reports to the Program Director, who oversees the Guild program, provides sacred storytelling vision for the Fall Mosaic and Spring play, schedules Guild sessions, communicates with ESG families, and provides direction and support for the production team.

  • is part of the production team including the Program Director, as well as others involved in areas including scriptwriting, props, costumes, music, art direction, theology, and tech. 

  • will be part of planning conversations with the production team, contributing to discussions about how to bring the vision of the Fall Mosaic and Spring Play to life. 

  • will work with the Program Director to organize and schedule rehearsals for the one-scene Fall Mosaic. 

  • will work with the Program Director to organize and schedule rehearsals for the Spring play.

  • is responsible for leading rehearsals and making creative decisions about how to bring the Fall Mosaic and Spring play to life, in conversation with the Program Director and the rest of the production team. 

  • will work with the members of the production team to create and source the props, costumes, lighting, tech and other materials needed for the productions within the scope of the ESG production budget.

  • will receive support, particularly with tracking blocking decisions, from the Director’s Assistant.

  • will be present on October 25 2026 and May 1, 2 & 8 2027 for the presentations and, if possible, at the year end cast party on May 21 2027.

Part-time contract position for the 2026/27 Eastside Story Guild (ESG) season

A 10 month contract, averaged at 5.5 hours/week

$30-40/hour, depending on experience and qualification

Theatre Director Reports to ESG Program Manager, with oversight by the ESG Advisory Committee (ESGAC)
